50 participants at the concluding conference
In addition to project and partnership members, representatives from other industries, ministry, national and regional institutions and county administrations in Sweden and Norway attended the conference on December the 5th at the University of Oslo. The main purpose of the conference was to present the project results and discuss the way forward for CCS with an industrial and regional perspective. Addressing the entire CCS chain and including legal and political framework for CCS in a national and regional context are special features of this project which was acknowledged. A safe and acceptable CO2 storage is a critical factor in all CCS chains and identification of the Gassum formation, south of Kristiansand, as a potential storage site is an important achievement of the project. The legal framework for CCS is also a demanding area which needs further attention and possibly set the timeline to provide a predictable environment for CCS implementation. The project report will be available at this web site shortly. Conference programme.

Concluding conference to be arranged in Oslo on December 7th
The CCS Skagerrak-Kattegat project shall be finalized within 2011. A closing conference will be held at the University of Oslo to summarize the project results. In addition to invited persons there is an opportunity for other people with an interest to participate at the conference. The conference language will be Norwegian. Please contact Liv Axelsen at liv.axelsen@tel-tek.no before 24th November at 16.00. Final programme.
CCS-Forum Sør-Østlandet, N arranged at the University of Oslo
15 representatives from industry, government, parliament and the project attended the meeting.
All expressed a strong interest in the project and acknowledged the totality that is covered for the entire CCS chain, including the framework and law
It is important that the further process within CCS are politically impelled.
It is important for the future of the Norwegian industry that CCS solutions are in place, but everybody admit that this is expensive today.
It was recommended that a political strategy in relation to politicians and authorities is developed. This is particularly important for Norway due to the fact that a new climate report, to be completed during the autumn, is now beeing worked on. Norsk Industri invited to collaboration during this process.
The need for cooperation and coordination to achieve the necessary infrastructure and CO2 storage, also at a Nordic level, was comprehended. The organization, structure and financing are key areas. The legal aspect is important. The importance of third-party access to infrastructure was mentioned.
The need to look at further work on CO2 storage, in light of the mapping work currently performed by the Gassnova, was comprehended. The project should follow up on this part through contact and further cooperation with Gassnova.
The participants were positive to a Nordic CCS Forum, but active participation from politicians or relevant ministries cannot be expected. These must be kept informed through parallel activities.
The planned meeting, CCS-Forum, V-Gøtaland at Chalmers June 14th, is postponed
More info later.
CCS - Forum for Sør-Østlandet, N will be arranged in Oslo June 6th, 13.00-17.00
The meeting will present and discuss project results so far and the way forward for CCS in the Skagerrak-Kattegat region. Location for the event is the University of Oslo, Helga Engs Hus, Blindern. Invited participants are key politicians (parliament members), representatives for relevant authorities and industry and project WP-leaders. For further infomation contact Dag Bjørnsen, Tel-Tek. Meeting agenda (in Norwegian).
The first ever CCS-forum in the region Västra Götaland will be held at Chalmers on June 14 this year
The forum will look closer at the potential of CCS in the region and the way forward starting from the ongoing research in the Skagerrak-project. Politicians, public servants, representatives from emission intensive industry and academia will be invited to speak, setting the scene for a fruitful debate around the issue of CCS as an important mitigation option within the region.
The importance of CCS in a Global, European and Nordic perspective was highlighted during Chalmers Energy Days in Gothenburg in January this year
Details from the ongoing research work in the Skagerrak CCS project were presented and it was argued that CCS can make a valuable contribution to overall emission reductions in the region, while at the same time offering a complete CO2 solution for the industry. Conference presentations.
The fourth partnership meeting revealed good progress and results
The meeting was arranged by Department of Geosciences, UiO with good attendance from project contributors and industry partners.
- UiO has identified promising structures for CO2 storage offshore Grimstad, N and continue with simulation work to characterize the potential reservoirs.
- The CO2 transport activity is looking into four cases and ramp-up scenarios to find cost optimal transport solutions from industry sources to the storage location.
- The CO2 capture activity at the industry locations tries to find local energy supplies from waste heat to cover needs in the capture plant and will proceed with cost estimation.
- On the communication side a series of workshops are planned with industry, relevant authorities and politicians in the region of V-Gøtaland, S and S-E of Norway. One issue will be to focus on how the work with CCS in the Skagerrak-Kattegat region should be continued and how to coordinate with other similar projects.
